In June 2023, on World Environment Day, we planted over 1,000 native forest trees across 3–4 acres of the farm with the help of a few friends. It was not a planned event but came together spontaneously, with the simple idea of giving back to the land.
Why We Planted
Around the farm, more and more trees are being cleared for construction and fields. We wanted to do the opposite—to create a space that restores biodiversity, provides green cover, and supports not just people but also birds, insects, and small animals.
We planted more than 60 species of native forest trees collected from the local region. Some will grow tall to form canopy, others will flower for pollinators, and many will fruit to support wildlife. The diversity itself makes the space stronger and more resilient.
How We Care for It
After planting, we set up drip irrigation to support the saplings. Since then, we have left the land undisturbed. We have not ploughed the area because we do not want to disturb the insects, rabbits, and ground birds that now live there. In just over a year, the trees have taken root, and life has begun to return—birds, butterflies, and other creatures are finding a home again.
The Future
We kept a clearing in the middle of the plantation to build traditional cottages in the future. These will be simple, nature-friendly spaces for people to stay, learn, and experience life closer to the forest.
Looking Ahead
This plantation has become an important part of the farm. It shows that with a little effort and the right intention, degraded or empty land can be turned into a thriving space for many forms of life. Over time, this patch will grow into a small forest, giving shade, shelter, and food for countless beings.
